How we Serve the Lake and Community

SCLA makes a difference by preventing and slowing negative impacts from invasive species.

Due to fluctuations in grant funding and project schedules, annual SCLA expenditures vary, but on average they are deployed as follows:

  • Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) prevention and control and lake and water quality surveys (75%)
  • Education and educational events (10%)
  • Member management, communications and services (15%)

VOLUNTEER HOURS & USE OF FUNDS 

Writing DNR Grant Applications to help fund mission projects including boat inspections at public launches to prevent Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM), Hybrid Watermilfoil (HWM), water quality testing, point intercept studies, AIS prevention and education.

Organizing & Training Lake Monitor Volunteers to regularly check for invasive species around the ENTIRE shoreline.

Treating & Mitigating Invasive Species: Curly Leaf Pondweed and Purple Loosestrife, and advising members on how to control invasives such as Yellow Flag Iris.

Sponsoring Educational Programs such as S.L.E.E.K. (Spider Lake Environmental Education for Kids).

Monitoring Health of Water & Wildlife Habitat

Attracting & Engaging High Quality Board & Committee Members with expertise in education, finance, legal, and investment management of charitable organizations. 

Working Closely With The Town of Spider Lake and other organizations on issues of common concern.

Publishing and Distributing "Spider Lines" (Member's Only) newsletter to strengthen and inform our lake community.

Hosting Events like the annual 4th of July boat parade and Annual Member Picnic.
