Each year around the 4th of July, SCLA sponsors a morning filled with fun activities to teach our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and young visitors about Spider Lake. Our morning consists of learning activities - sometimes on land and sometimes on a pontoon classroom. We do cool stuff like visiting islands, viewing eagles nests, observing fish through an underwater camera and studying microorganisms with the aid of microscopes. Our educators include naturalists from the Cable Natural History Museum. Spider Lake kids of all ages (and their parents too!) learn about the natural world living all around us at Spider Lake. And they get to meet other kids and adults living on the lake! “I liked it because I got to know other kids on the lake, and we all met up again every year during SLEEK.” ~Steven |
S.L.E.E.K. is important to engage active SCLA members' families to learn about our natural lake surroundings. Children will be the future stewards of the lakes.
Join them in learning at SLEEK!
The learning adventure changes each year based on the topic. We can be in a field, on a pontoon boat, wading along the shoreline or on the edge of a marsh observing a beaver lodge. Endless opportunities.
SLEEK is held sometime near the 4th of July,
SLEEK is funded by SCLA and run by SCLA volunteers who partner with the Cable Natural History Museum naturalists and interns for the families of the Spider Chain of Lakes Association. A different nature topic is chosen each year. Enthusiastic children and their parents/grandparents participate in educational hikes, games and lessons.
