THREE TYPES OF GIFTS

1. FISH MEMBER GIFT: If you MAKE a Fish Gift online, PLEASE THEN GO TO THE MEMBERSHIP Renewal PAGE & RENEW

Fish Member Gifts are directed to fund operations such as:

  • AIS Prevention: Boat inspectors at public landings to educate boaters to prevent invasive species from entering the Spider Chain
  • Education: Informing lake residents and children about conservation through events such as Spider Lake Environmental Education for Kids ("SLEEK")
  • Water Quality & Safety: Buoy management, water testing, and maintaining healthy fish habitats
  • Partnerships: Collaborating with organizations like WisconsinLakes.org and the WDNR
  • Communications: Informing members and the public on critical issues that impact the Chain of Lakes, including best shoreline practices and wildlife protection

Fish Member Gifts tiered donation levels, range from World Record Musky ($3,000) to Bluegill ($125). Annual per family cost of operations in 2025 was over $400.  Our goal is 100% member participation in Fish Member Gifts (from its 62% level in 2025).  Encourage your neighbors to donate!!

2.  ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY GIFT

NEW in 2024, Organizational Capacity gifts fund the cost to replace volunteer finance and communication workers. Previously performed by volunteers with domain expertise, this work now requires outsourcing to professional firms to ensure the sustainability of SCLA.

    • Bookkeeping, accounting and donation management 
    • Communications: Website, member announcements, event updates, and newsletter management

Our Challenge: SCLA previously relied on volunteers who are now less available, and in some cases no longer available to perform critical finance and communications work. To continue protecting the Spider Chain of Lakes, we need your support through annual donations of both Fish Member and Organizational Capacity gifts.

3.  PRESERVE & PROTECT FUND GIFT (Endowment + Emergency Reserve)

This fund supports SCLA's long-term mission and emergency needs. Two-thirds of your P&P donation is allocated to the SCLA Endowment,, and one-third is allocated to the Emergency Reserve for unexpected emergency expenses.

    • Endowment: Designed & managed to sustain SCLA in perpetuity, the endowment funded 20% of budgeted expenses for 2025
    • Emergency Reserve: Designed to meet unexpected emergencies such as the discovery and mitigation of new invasive species

  • IRA Distribution: Donors age 70 1/2 and older can use their required minimum distribution as a donation to SCLA and avoid certain taxes.  See the IRS website for more details. or contact your IRA administrator and tax advisor.

  • Donor Advised Fund: Transfer your gift directly to SCLA, a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation (tax I.D. 39-1480182)
  • Securities/Mutual Funds: Transfer assets directly from your brokerage account to SCLA's account.  For details go to Using Securities page of our website

  • Estate Gift: Include SCLA in your will

  • Company Matching Gifts: Ask your employer if they provide matching gifts
  • Memorials & Tributes: Published annually to recognize your loved ones
